Direct Access involves going to a physical therapist without a prescription or referral. You don’t have a physical therapy prescription? Nothing to be concerned about!
Without a physician’s prescription or referral, physical therapists can be contacted directly. A ruling has been issued by all fifty states and the District of Columbia, allowing patients “direct access” to physical therapy services and programs.
In other words, the government made it acceptable for individuals to go directly to their preferred physical therapy clinic and receive the resources and treatment they require.
